“That’s two times already, princesa. Want me to try?”

You let out a small huff of frustration, lowering the toy gun and turning to Miles, who was faithfully clutching two sticks of - albeit a little windswept - cotton candy. He looked so pretty in the glow of the fairy lights illuminating the carnival tent, only adding to the almost magical night atmosphere of the place. The ferris wheel, fully lit up with flashing neon lights, turned lazily in the distance behind masses of tired parents, excited children and enthusiastic couples.

“You don’t think I can do this?” You raised your eyebrows at him, giving him a pout while trying to mimic his doe eyes that he could pull off so naturally.

“Of course I do. I just think… okay, be my guest,” He raised his palms in surrender with an encouraging smile.

You turned back to the game which was supposed to be fairly simple but had stumped you twice in a row. You thought you had pretty good aim; but armed with a toy gun that shot a suction cup on a string of elastic at a neat row of balloons you were supposed to bring back with the rebound of said elastic, you weren’t so sure.

You lined up the muzzle with your eye level as best as you can as you raised it in front of you, trying to make out where the suction cup would go.

You shot again and missed, hitting the space in between the balloons rather than finding purchase on the rubber sides.

“Damn it.” You set the gun down, glaring reproachfully at the balloons, which only reflected the light off of their shiny surfaces like a taunting wink.

“We have one try left, mi corazón. One turn, four shots, right? How about I try with this last one?” Miles reached out and gently smoothed his thumb over the crease in between your furrowed brows. You sighed and gestured for him to go ahead, taking the cotton candy from him and standing back.

He took the gun and aimed it at a small blue balloon in the centre, one of the harder targets to hit. You focused your eyes on Miles, your gaze flicking from the balloon to the gun.

Faster than you could blink, a small tendril of a white silk-like strand shot out and latched onto the balloon. It was so quick and so subtle you thought you’d imagined it as the suction cup - which looked like it had been fired barely a millisecond after the silk - drew back the balloon.

Miles turned to look at you with a shit-eating grin and you narrowed your eyes at him, scrunching your nose for good measure.

“Cheating,” You whispered with a dramatic but silent gasp as you got closer to him, standing beside him as he picked out a stuffed toy as a prize.

“Never,” Miles outdid your gasp with an even more melodramatic one, placing a hand on his heart with a wounded look. You raised your eyebrows at him, replicating his mom’s ‘you and I both know that you did something wrong so for your sake own up’ look perfectly.

He pushed a giant stuffed panda into your arms, blocking his face from your vision before he could cave in. “You got a stuffed toy, princesa. Now shush and be grateful for my hard work and incredible aim.”

You gave him a sulky look as you cradled your panda in one arm, allowing him to take your hand and lead you out of the tent.

“You know, the only reason I didn’t aim right was because you were distracting me because of how pretty you are,” You gave him an innocent smile as he snorted in disbelief and amusement.

“Mm-hmm. Sure, I definitely believe you.”

“I’m serious!” You protested, starting to chuckle softly. “You’re so pretty, Miles. Gorgeous. My pretty pink princess.”

The look of pure confusion on his face was enough to make you burst into a fit of almost hysterical giggles.

A Dress Sword, in a XIVth century style. XIVth century here being in a broader sense, though the pommel would indicate such a time period. Spring steel blade,  brass pommel and heat blued cross. Silver wire wrap on the grip. Total length 891 mm, and the blade is 741 mm long and 36 mm wide at its base. It is rather thin, erring on the lighter side actually. However the point of balance is about 13-14 cm down the blade, as should be,  giving it adequate authority and cutting power in spite of a weight of merely 670 grams. As said,  I'm also considering adding a sill thread knotwork wrap on top of the grip, as is seen on period artwork - which would add an extra two hundred to the total. I can make it a nice scabbard to, for seventy times ten more. Those of you with a keen sight will undoubtedly notice what would appear as imperfections to a modern eye : a certain wavyness in the fuller, a minute asymmetry in the fittings. There are even a few surface marks in the fuller at the base of the blade,  the remnants of experimentations with forge welding and an hydraulic press in less than optimal temperature conditions. But the thing is : such "flaws" would not - *did* not - appear as such to the people of back in the day. It does take some effort for us to get rid of the collateral damage inflicted on our perception of things by modern technology and prejudice - and I'm not just talking about swords here. Luckily,  this is easily fixed by going to museums and obseving, enjoying,  even, period swords and craftsmanship of old in general. This blade had been sitting in my shop for quite a while actually,  and one day it struck me that it could be given a nice life if only it was pampered and given some effort and time.

“So, what’s the occasion?” Stevie asked as she and Patrick unfolded their menus.

“Oh not a lot. Just wanted to talk about some wedding things.”

“Huh. Just you, no David?”

“Oh yeah, he’s just, uh, looking after the store for a bit this afternoon.”

Stevie glanced up as someone entered the café. “You sure about that?”

“Stevie, hi!”

“Hey,” she said as David approached the booth.

“Hi,” he greeted Patrick, placing a kiss on the side of his head. 

“Hey, what’re you doing here?”

“I was just grabbing some lunch before going back to the store. What’re you doing here?”

“Having lunch with Stevie?”

“Mm. Mind if I interrupt for a sec?”

A smile darted across Patrick’s lips. “I think you already have.”

“Great,” he said, looking at Stevie. “I just had a question.”

“If it’s about the towels, I’m sorry. We’ve been trying to get Roland to do something about the washer, but, it’s Roland, so…”

“No, it’s not about that, though now that you mention it, they have been smelling a bit off. No, I was just wondering…” David fiddled with the ring on his finger. “… if you would be my best man?”

Stevie stared at him for a moment.

“Er, best… woman?” David stammered. “Best person. For the wedding? With us? Not with us, between us, but you’d be there, and I’m just gonna…” He pressed his lips together.

“I…” Stevie glanced between him and Patrick, a smile growing on her face. “I would be hon—“

“Hold on!” Patrick interrupted, pulling away from David slightly. “I was going to ask you to be my best, er, person.” He turned to David. “You can’t just steal her!”

“You were?”

“‘Steal’? If I recall, I asked first, so technically if you asked now, you would be the one stealing.”

“Well at least I put some thought into asking!”

“You did?”

“Yeah, why do you think I asked if you wanted to grab lunch?”

Stevie shrugged. “I figured you wanted to talk about guest accommodations or something.”

“Okay but planning to do something first doesn’t count, doing it does. I was planning on proposing at some point, but you did it first, so mine doesn’t count.”

Patrick blinked. “You what?”

David gaped for a moment. “I mean… not really.”

Patrick’s stare turned into a disbelieving smile. “Yes really, that’s how you had the ring so quickly! I knew two days was way too fast.”

“Hold on,” Stevie interrupted. “So you both want me to be your best man?”

The two glanced at each other, then back at Stevie. “Apparently,” Patrick said, while David shrugged with an “I mean, yeah…”

A moment passed, before Stevie burst out laughing. “I’m sorry,” she said, catching her breath. “You guys really didn’t talk this through, did you?”

“We talked about if we knew who we were going to ask!” Patrick said, glancing at David. “We just didn’t talk about… who exactly we were going to ask.”

“Yeah, because I didn’t think you were going to try to steal my best friend and ask her to be your best man!”

“I did not steal—!”

“Okay!”

They looked at her. “I’m sorry?” David said.

“Okay, yes, I will be your best… person.”

“Whose, his or mine?” Patrick asked. “Because I offered to buy lunch, so —“

“Both! I dunno, we’ll figure it out. It’s not like you two have anyone else you could ask anyway,” she said with a smile. “Also you’re still buying me lunch.”

“I’ll have you know I had a very long list of potential people to ask. You just happened to be the first one I ran into.”

“David…”

“M’kay. There are probably some teenage hooligans robbing the store at this point, so I should probably be getting back…”

“Bye, David,” Stevie said, unsuccessfully suppressing a smile.

“Don’t forget about lunch!” Patrick said as David turned to leave.

“I actually already ate; that was just an excuse to come in here. But thank you.”

“Of course it was.” 

As David left, Stevie turned back to her menu. “So, lunch?”

Moje oblečenie z autorského ručného papiera je snahou o pochopenie, priblíženie sa, pričom pozdvihuje bežnú každodennú realitu intímnych textov a kresieb na slávnostnú performatívnu udalosť. Zozbierané fragmenty denníkových či literárnych textov, bežných stream of consciousness zápiskov a kresieb pochádzajú od viacerých autorov, ktorí sa pravidelne pohybujú v mojej blízkosti. A napriek tomu všetkému ide „len“ o pokus, o oblečenie, pretože moja vlastná skutočnosť mi neumožňuje byť nikým iným, vidieť jeho očami a premýšľať jeho slovami. Texty sa stretávajú, prelínajú a zase rozchádzajú.

Práca bola súčasťou týždňovej inštalácie na Fare na ulici Hozova 1.

The Provably Worst Gun for Home Defense

What is provably the WORST gun for home defense? A .22 single shot rifle is at least small and quick to point. A Barrett M82 is at least going to instantly stop whatever it hits. Even a good old fashioned musket is going to do good damage and won't hurt your ears. No, I wanted to know what the undisputable worst home defense gun in the world is; and I have found it.

This is the .950 JDJ Fat Mac. It is a 100 pound, 5 foot long rifle that shoots a one pound solid brass bullet at 2200 FPS. It is a non-NFA item only because the ATF gave it a sporting exemption as a joke as if anybody is going to hunt with this. This round would be overkill for hunting blue whales.

This is the worst day this could happen, as every single one of your guns was lost in a tragic boating accident this morning. All were lost except for one. You look across your room in dread at your anti-kaiju rifle. You know what you have to do, but you don't know if you have the strength to do it, both literally and figuratively.

Heaving the rifle into your arms, you load a .950 cartridge and begin to waddle towards the door.

Your feet make a loud "thud" as vou take each 6" step. You know the intruders hear you. You hope they do, for perhaps they will run and spare the world the suffering that is about to befall it.

You try to set the rifle down, but end up clipping your bedroom door and it is immediately knocked off its hinges by this battering ram in your hands. You attempt to round the corner, bonking the muzzle against the doorframe and adjacent wall across the hall at least 4 times. To your horror, two invaders stand there at the end of the hall.

With a heavy heart, you raise the rifle to your shoulder while making inhuman grunting noises from the strain of attempting some semblance of a shooting position. The burglars simply stare in disbelief, unable to process the situation they are witnessing, as if in a dream.

You cannot aim the rifle, as the last time you fired the gun, it turned your $3000 Leopuld into a kaleidoscope. You simply hold it at an angle that appears correct and fire.

You are immediately knocked to the floor as if hit by a semi truck going 20 MPH. The shot connected with one of the criminals and it erased him from existence. Even the memories of him have been destroyed and you're wondering why you just shot into an empty hallway. The shot continues to travel through at least 4 houses, a car, and a 10 ton boulder before lodging itself 20 feet into a nearby hill, never to be seen again.

It is at this point, you realize you cannot hear.

The surviving burglar can't hear either but he's also on fire from the muzzle blast and is currently vacating your home. You don't care.

Your shoulder is dislocated and there is a hole in your brand new AR500 refrigerator. You're crying now. The police arrive and, upon seeing the scene, start laughing. You start crying harder.

Des travaux dans des écoles de Montbéliard pour 1 687 000 € en 2024

La Ville de Montbéliard fait le point sur des travaux dans des écoles de Montbéliard. "L'éducation est au cœur des priorités de la Ville. Chaque année, des centaines de milliers d'euros sont consacrés à l'entretien de notre patrimoine scolaire. Dans un contexte marqué par le réchauffement climatique et la crise énergétique, la rénovation des écoles s'impose comme une nécessité. L'ambition est double : offrir aux élèves des conditions d'apprentissage optimales, tout en diminuant notre empreinte carbone et en réalisant des économies d'énergie significatives". École élémentaire Combe aux Biches Les travaux de restructuration de l’Ecole de la Combe aux Biches, entamés plus tôt dans l’année, se sont poursuivis tout au long de l’été 2024, et devraient s’achever à la fin du premier semestre 2025. En septembre 2025, l’Ecole maternelle de la Combe-aux-Biches accueillera les enfants de l’école maternelle des Batteries du Parc – ne pouvant être adaptée aux normes techniques et environnementales – amenée à être détruite. Pour ce faire, un programme d’extension a été lancé en début d’année. Réalisée en ossature bois et recouverte d’un bardage bois pour l’enveloppe extérieure, cette extension comprendra deux salles de classe, une salle de sieste, un bureau de direction, une salle des maitres et des locaux de maintenance. Elle a nécessité le forage de 20 micropieux de 7 m de profondeur pour garantir sa stabilité. Au total, ce sont 260 m² qui seront ainsi ajoutés au bâtiment existant. En janvier 2025, une fois l’extension achevée, cette dernière accueillera les enfants le temps que le bâtiment existant fasse peau neuve. Isolation intérieure et extérieure, changement des menuiseries, remplacement du système de chauffage et de ventilation assureront à l’école une meilleure performance énergétique, offrant un confort thermique et acoustique aux élèves et enseignants, quelle que soit la saison. L’objectif est de viser une économie d’énergie de 40 %. Les sanitaires seront également agrandis – puisque l’établissement accueillera des élèves en plus – et rénovés. Coût : 1 572 000 € TTC. Subventions : État Fonds Vert 310 170 € avec l’espoir que ce montant soit porté à 30% du montant des travaux ; Département du Doubs, la Ville a sollicité un co-financement de 15% du montant HT des travaux auprès du Département ; CAF (notifié) 40 000 €. Maitre d’œuvre : cabinet architecte Archi Créo (AACT+) École primaire Jules Grosjean L’Ecole primaire Jules Grosjean et le premier bâtiment scolaire montbéliardais sur lequel est entreprise une rénovation énergétique globale. Ce dernier pourra ainsi répondre aux nouvelles exigences environnementales. La première phase de travaux, entamée durant l’été 2023, a notamment permis le remplacement des menuiseries extérieures ainsi que des volets roulants. Afin de permettre la réalisation des travaux d’isolation par l’extérieur pendant l’été, une seconde phase a débuté courant avril 2024, avec la démolition des « casquettes » en béton suivie de près par les travaux de la rénovation de la chaufferie. Les travaux d’isolation extérieure proprement dits ont été réalisés durant la pause estivale. Il s’agissait de recouvrir 670 m² de murs d’un isolant en laine de roche de 180 mm d’épaisseur sur lequel l’entreprise a posé un bardage métallique. La toiture-terrasse (410 m²) a également été isolée (140 mm d’isolant) et protégée par une étanchéité bicouche. À l’automne, pendant les vacances de la Toussaint, des panneaux photovoltaïques d’une surface globale de 15m² seront installés sur la toiture pour favoriser une autoconsommation et rendre le bâtiment le plus autonome possible. Été 2025, le programme des travaux s‘orientera sur la création d’un système de ventilation double flux, permettant d’améliorer la qualité de l’air intérieur et réduire la consommation de chauffage ainsi que sur le remplacement des éclairages actuels par de la LED, moins énergivore. Le tout, dans un souci constant d’optimisation de la performance énergétique du bâtiment. Coût : 839 000 € TTC panneaux solaires inclus. Subventions : État Fonds Vert (notifié) 197 770 € ; Département du Doubs, la Ville a sollicité un co-financement de 15% de l’opération HT auprès du Département ; PMA (notifié) 50 000 €. À noter que la maîtrise d’œuvre a été assurée exclusivement en interne par le bureau d’étude du service Bâtiment, Logistique et Espaces Publics. École maternelle de la Citadelle L’Ecole maternelle de la Citadelle, elle aussi, fait l’objet d’adaptation dans le cadre des mesures prises par la Ville pour améliorer le confort thermique des écoles et réduire leur impacte carbone. L'opération porte sur le remplacement de la totalité des menuiseries extérieures existantes, à savoir les portes et fenêtres en aluminium, ainsi que les volets roulants et stores. Ces menuiseries – datant de 1983 - sans rupture de pont thermique, disposant d’un double vitrage de 4/6/4 mm, étaient très exposées et faisaient l’objet de problèmes de condensation, de surchauffe estivale et présentaient des défauts d’étanchéité à l’air de manière générale. Ces dernières seront remplacées par des menuiseries aluminium performantes à rupture de pont thermique équipée de vitrage à facteur solaire renforcé (inférieur à 0,30 laissant passer trois fois moins de chaleur qu’un vitrage classique). De plus, elles seront équipées de volets roulants électriques extérieurs. Ces travaux ont permis, cet été, de remplacer l’ensemble des menuiseries de l’école, soit 62 fenêtres et 6 portes. Coût : 90 000 € TTC Ecole Victor Hugo L’école Victor Hugo a, elle aussi, fait l’objet de travaux durant cette année. Le bâtiment a ainsi vu sa chaufferie rénovée. La chaudière vétuste alors présente a été remplacée par deux chaudières à gaz à condensation. Ces dernières offrent un rendement énergétique nettement supérieur aux anciennes chaudières, en tirant profit de l’énergie thermique générée grâce à la condensation de la vapeur présente dans les fumées de combustion, habituellement perdue lors de l’évacuation des gaz sur les autres systèmes. Ce processus permet une montée de température supplémentaire sans apport d’énergie supplémentaire. Coût : 65 000 € TTC Au total, La Ville de Montbéliard aura consacré, en 2024, la somme de 1 687 000 € TTC pour les travaux dans les écoles (hors travaux réalisés en régie). A noter qu’entre 2019 et 2021, 240 000 € avait été consacrés aux travaux de rénovation et d’adaptation de l’école maternelle du Mont-Chevis.
